One thing to think about with designing your home exterior is contrast. Colors that are opposite actually go together well. If you want a stunning makeover without putting in a lot of effort, go with a contrasting color for your roof. If your exterior and trim are light, go for a darker color. If the body of your home is dark, then a lighter roof color will really pop.

It would be pretty hard to imagine a dark colored home with a dark roof doing well in the Florida sunshine. But, if a dark colored home were in the middle of an evergreen forest, it would blend in well with the surroundings. When you’re thinking about what color roof to do for your home, look at the homes around your’s and see what style they chose. If you want to blend well with the local area, choose something similar to the style of your neighbors.

Classic colors look good no matter what the latest trending style is. Sometimes homes can look dated because they fit into the trend from that time, like in the 90’s, a monochromatic look was popular for homes. Everything on the exterior was the same color, from the siding, to the trim, to the roof. A classic design will look good 10 years from now as much as it does today. If you want a classic look for your home, choose a roof color that is calm and not too bright. Some examples of classic colors are navy, cream, gray, dark green, or tan.

Popular Colors

If a trendy color is something you’re looking for, you may have to do a little research. Also, think about what colors go well with nature and the landscape around your home. Often the most popular colors are inspired by our connection to our homes and where we live. The most popular color from last year for roofing was aged copper! The orange color matches well with another popular color, sage green and dark brown. Together, that color combo is sure to impress.
